Jay Leno is recovering after falling down a hill, hitting his head on a rock and breaking his wrist, among sustaining other injuries.
The former “Tonight Show” funnyman told TMZ on Tuesday he was staying at a hotel located at the top of a hill outside Pittsburgh and fell while walking down to a restaurant on Saturday.
“To get to it, I didn’t have a car, so you had to walk about a mile and a half around,” he told the outlet. “I said, ‘Well, the hill doesn’t look that steep. It’s about 60–70 feet. Let me see if I can go down the hill.’”
Unfortunately, Leno’s attempt didn’t go well, as he rolled down the hill and hit his head on a rock, which “knocked [him] in the eye.”
In a video posted Tuesday by Inside Edition, the comedian can be seen wearing an patch over his eye with the left side of his face heavily bruised and swollen. He’s also seen with bruises on his right hand and a brace on his broken wrist.
Despite the accident, Leno said that he still performed at his scheduled show Saturday night and only went to the hospital after returning to Los Angeles.
“The show must go on,” he told TMZ. “The great thing about this age is you don’t learn from your mistakes so you keep doing the same stupid thing.”
Leno has been injured multiple times in recent years. He suffered third-degree burns in a garage fire while working on one of his vintage cars in November 2022. He said his face caught fire and he had to spend several days at the Grossman Burn Center where he received skin grafts.
In January 2023, he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he broke his collarbone, two ribs and both kneecaps after falling off his motorcycle.
